$16.25 Million for a State Football Centre in Queens Park!

The Morrison Government is committed to providing modern, equitable and long-lasting facilities for grassroots sporting clubs through to the elite level. That’s why we have committed $16.25 million towards the construction of the WA State Football Centre.

We know that football is one of the popular sports in WA with more than 230,000 West Australians playing the world game, and this project has been a key goal of the West Australian football community for the better part of the last decade, with our support Football West will finally have a state-of-the-art home at Maniana Reserve in Queens Park.

This is critical because the recent success of the Perth Glory in the A-League and W-League means more and more young people in the West are signing up to their local clubs.

The feats of our Matildas alone are helping to drive an increase in female football participation in WA of 64 per cent over the last decade. We want to make sure that the local talent pools, which have already produced players like Sam Kerr remain strong.

When constructed, the State Centre will centrally locate Football West and Perth Glory with training facilities, a sports science centre, and an administration base.

The Centre will be fit for purpose to host W-League and Women’s Premier League matches, as well as grassroots junior and regional football programs and it will serve more than just players with a specific training and development centre for coaches, referees and club officials.

Our commitment to this project is half of the estimated cost for Stage One which will establish the training facilities and administration base as well as developing playing fields.
