Bringing the West Coast Eagles to Lathlain Oval
In 2010, following the announcement of the Burswood Stadium development, I publicly proposed that the West Coast Eagles relocate to Lathlain Oval (the home of Perth Football Club) and started a local campaign towards making this happen.
Since then I have been working closely with the West Coast Eagles CEO Trevor Nisbett to see if this proposal could be brought to fruition.
As a former Director of Junior Development for Perth Football Club, which is based at the Lathlain site, and a former player in the WAFL league I know the benefits that sport can bring to an area. I also know the great potential of the Lathlain Oval site.
We have recently been making significant progress with the Eagles announcing in 2013 that Lathlain Oval was its preferred option for relocation.
The Eagles have put forward a development proposal into the public domain and I have been working with the Club towards gaining the funding support in Canberra that would allow it to proceed.
This is an exciting development for the whole electorate and we must keep working to ensure that it comes to fruition.
