Federal Member for Swan Steve Irons is set to deliver four times greater security in Belmont.

The Federal Government announced today it would quadruple Mr Irons’ pre-election commitment to helping the community feel and stay safer by increasing the number of closed circuit television cameras (CCTV) being installed at Belmont Forum and Village from 4 to 16.

In the 2014-2015 Federal Government budget under the Safer Streets Programme, Mr Irons secured $100,000 to go towards the installation of four CCTV cameras around the perimeter of Belmont Forum and Belmont Village.

The Federal Government announced today it would increase coverage to 16 cameras.

“This is just another example of the coalition government’s commitment to keeping the local community safer in their own neighbourhoods,” Mr Irons said.

Mr Irons has actively campaigned for CCTV crime prevention in the City of Belmont since he was a candidate for the electorate of Swan in 2007.

“This is a project that I have been very passionate about and I am pleased to see it being implemented four times over,” Mr Irons said.

“It is proven that CCTV gets results, and we are committed to assisting police to easier identify and prosecute offenders.” The project is expected to be completed in May 2016.
