27 March 2018

The Parliamentary Joint Committee on Corporations and Financial Services has tabled its report on its inquiry into the Life Insurance Industry.

The inquiry has followed on from, and overlapped with, significant reviews and legislative changes, as well as ownership changes in the industry.

The Committee’s report has focussed on areas where substantial changes are required to ensure the life insurance industry is held to account.

Mr Irons welcomes the completion of the report and thanked everyone who made a submission.

“I’d like to acknowledge and thank all witnesses who contributed to this inquiry through written submissions or evidence given during Hearings, providing us with a strong evidence base which informed our deliberations,” Mr Irons said.

“The report has made many recommendations that are not only designed to effectively improve consumer outcomes but also to secure the sustainability of the Life Insurance industry.”

The Committee’s report is a unanimous report from Coalition, Labor, and Greens Committee members and is the product of evidence received through 77 submissions and seven public hearings.

Further information on the inquiry is available on the Committee’s website:
