Swan commemorates ADF serviceFederal Member for Swan Steve Irons was today pleased to announce that the Swan veteran community has received an additional funding boost to help commemorate its proud history of service in the Australian Defence Force.

Mr Irons said on top of the $50,000 in funding the Victoria Park RSL Sub-branch has already received under the Federal Government’s Anzac Centenary Local Grants Programme, the RSL would also now be receiving an additional $7,000 in funding toward their Anzac Centenary projects’ under the Government’s Saluting Their Service Grants Programme.

“Under this funding $4,000 would be dedicated to installing the RSL’s new community war memorial wall to honour those residents of Victoria Park who enlisted for active service during the First World War, and $3,000 would be dedicated to the RSL’s Centenary of Anzac Dedication Memorial Service on 24 April,” Mr Irons said.

“I congratulate the Victoria Park RSL Sub-branch on its efforts to recognise the invaluable contribution of Australian servicemen and women past and present, and ensure the next generation appreciates their service and sacrifice.”

The Saluting Their Service Grants Programme helps the Australian community from all walks of life to contribute to the commemoration of those who have served and continue to serve our nation.

The grants assist community and ex-service organisations in a range of activities including restoring wartime memorabilia, establishing new commemorative plaques, and upgrades to local rolls of honour.

Local community and ex-service organisations interested in applying for future  grant funding rounds should visit www.dva.gov.au/grants or call 133 254 (for metropolitan callers) or 1800 555 254 (for non-metropolitan callers).
