Steve Irons MP Federal Member for Swan

The Morrison Liberal Government will provide a further $300,000 for targeted security lighting upgrades to improve public safety in East Victoria Park laneways and Carlisle residential areas.

The funding will build on the success of street lighting improvements already delivered by the Federal Liberal Government in Round 1 of the Safer Communities fund in residential areas of St James, Burswood, East Victoria Park and Oats Street Train Station, bringing the total investment by the Liberal Government in lighting upgrades in the Town of Victoria Park to $600,000.

The Town of Victoria Park, in consultation with Kensington Police, has identified 4 Laneways with poor lighting that suffer from anti-social behaviour and repeat criminal offences and over 30 lights through Carlisle to upgrade.

Having met with the Carlisle South Neighbourhood Watch Group and heard from other local residents it became clear that many residents felt that poor lighting in Carlisle is contributing to very high crime rates in this area.

This funding will build on the success of Stage 1 improvements and tackle crime in these residential areas.

The Coalition has now committed $138 million across Australia to deliver on various strategies designed to strengthen our communities.

The Coalition will continue to assist local councils and organisations to address crime and anti-social behaviour and make our nation safer.
